About the Author
Joel Watson is Professor of Economics at the University of California, San Diego. He received his BA from UCSD and his PhD from Stanford. Watson is one of the top game theorists of his generation, and his work has been published in a variety of leading journals, including The American Economic Review, Econometrica, Journal of Economic Theory, Quarterly Journal of Economics, and Games and Economic Behavior.

Witty and clear

As far as economics textbooks go, this one is very readable. Its treatment of the subject is clear and reasonably rigorous on the undergraduate level. The author is also quite witty.

Disappointing

I bought this book because it was the required text for the Open Yale Course on Game Theory. I did not think it was well written and is not easy to follow. Chapter 3's Terminology and Notation section is especially bad. The organization of the book's chapters don't seem to have any rhyme or reason, with some chapters being only two pages long. This came as a surprise to me after reading the reviews for this book. There are no answers in the book for the exercises so you can't be sure if you have correctly understood the lesson. They said that guided exercises were added, but they are really part of the lesson and there is no way you can practice or test yourself with the single guided exercise. What is most glaring is that the book doesn't even mention Evolutionary Stable Strategies. How can a text on Strategy ignore that completely? The only saving grace is that the examples are more realistic than the Open Yale Course, but who cares as long as you learn the lesson. I would not have bought the book and would have stuck with the Open Yale videos alone if I had known.

Great and easy to follow

I found this book well worth my money. It's quite accessible and has great examples. I like the guided problem sets. I just wish the exercises had an answer key. They're great practice.
