George T. Montague, SM, is a professor of biblical theology at St. Mary's University, San Antonio, TX. He is the author of numerous books on scripture. He has served as president of the Catholic Biblical Association of America and as editor of the Catholic Biblical Quarterly. He is also a popular speaker internationally.

Fantastic Commentary on Matthew's Gospel

There are many good commentaries on Matthew's Gospel, both of a scholarly nature, and of a devotional one. This book is a melding- very successful- of these two kinds of approaches. I had the good fortune to have Fr. Montague as my teacher when I was a student at the Franciscan University of Steubenville, right after he came back from Nepal, and can attest to his skill in balancing faith and scholarship. I encourage people who prefer, or would benefit, from this kind of approach to pick up this text to use in studying Matthew's Gospel.
