Beckerman, an Oregon cardiologist who is the heart expert at WebMD.com and MedHelp.org, takes a personalized approach to weight loss, claiming, "You can't treat everyone the same way even if they have the same problem." His plan is divided into three phases--a two-week period covering what readers can do "Today," three weeks of tips for "Every Day," and long-term options called "Your Way." "Today" ideas include finding a weight-loss buddy or joining a support group, as well as Internet solutions such as signing up for automatic Flex Diet texts, blogging, and joining Twitter. "Every Day" suggestions include eating beans, tofu, and fish once a week (recipes included), avoiding all-you-can-eat restaurants, and refraining from finishing off your child's dinner. In "Your Way," he offers a range of exercise choices and even suggests dining on unappetizing blue plates, eating only until 80% full, or ordering a kid's meal at fast food restaurants for better portion control. About the Author
Dr. James Beckerman is the WebMD Heart Expert and the MedHelp Weight Loss and Healthy Lifestyle Expert. �He graduated from Harvard College and Harvard Medical School and trained as a cardiologist at Massachusetts General Hospital and Stanford University. �He sees patients every day in the Providence Heart and Vascular Institute in Portland, Oregon. �Dr. Beckerman serves on the Oregon Governor's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports and is the team cardiologist for the Portland Timbers Major League Soccer team.

Brilliant in its Simplicity

Dr. Beckerman has succeeded in writing an accessible and realistic approach to heart health. With our busy lifestyles, many of us are simply unable to implement a "paradigm shift" in our lifestyle. Dr. Beckerman's 200 or so suggestions are well researched and provide an opportunity for success, not failure. I will recommend this to my patients!

Finally a no-nonsense approach to weight loss and living healthy!

This is the first book on dieting and a healthy approach to living a fulfilled lifestyle. It's easy to read and informative. It is common sense in writing! I have lost 5 pounds in the first 10 days. This book helps organize your daily routine and it's fun to read. Good work Dr. Beckerman!

Weight Loss 101 for Complete Newbies

Don't be mislead by the title- there is no "diet" in this book. What you'll find instead are 200 lifestyle change suggestions. For the most part, they are very sensible ideas that will indeed help you be healthier. However, unless you're a complete newbie to weight loss they are almost all completely obvious things that you've heard a zillion times before. Weigh yourself daily! Keep a food diary! Drink six glasses of water a day! Take a multivitamin! Get a good night's sleep! Eat breakfast every day! Don't eat out of vending machines! Cut out sugar-sweetened beverages! Take a walk after dinner! Avoid high fructose corn syrup! Find a weight loss buddy!
I could probably count on a single hand how many of the 200 suggestions were actually new to me. What a waste of time.
