About the Author
Dave McKean has illustrated several award-winning comics, including the best-selling BATMAN: ARKHAM ASYLUM (written by Grant Morrison), MR. PUNCH, Signal to Noise and Violent Cases (all written by Neil Gaiman), Slow Chocolate Autopsy (written by Iain Sinclair) and his own Cages. His collected short stories Pictures That [Tick] won the Victoria & Albert Museum Book of the Year Award, and his short film N[eon] won overall first prize at the Clermont-Ferrand Film Festival.
�� �McKean has illustrated, photographed and designed over 150 CD covers and hundreds of comic and book covers, including the entire SANDMAN series. He has worked on print and film projects with John Cale, Stephen King, the Rolling Stones, Lars Von Trier and SF Said, and created ad campaigns for Kodak, Nike, BMW Mini and Smirnoff, among others.
�� �McKean also runs the jazz label Feral with top sax player Iain Ballamy, and has contributed production designs to the second and third Harry Potter films. Most recently, he directed the Jim Henson Productions film MirrorMask, which he co-wrote with Neil Gaiman. McKean lives in England's Kent countryside.

Think of this book as the companion book to the Dust Covers (coincidentally re-released around this time.) If you're a Sandman diehard or a fan of Dave McKean's wonderfully psychedelic artwork, then this book is a must have. It's like watching the evolution of McKean's unique artwork throughout the years. Gorgeously captured, I think this book will be on my coffee table a lot.

Great book, great cover, bad paper ... print quality is not bad but the paper is too thin for my taste. A real disappointment as it is an art book. Recommended to all fans of Dave Mckean but handle with care ...

“Dream State: The Collected Dreaming Covers,” collects Dave McKean's covers for “The Dreaming,” “Sandman Presents” and the new series “Sandman: Overture,” as well as his art for another new story by Gaiman, “Fish Out of Water.” Taken together with the newly re-released hardcover edition of "Dust Covers," which includes all his Sandman covers, they’re a history of the evolution of McKeans' work over a decade, and no fan of “Sandman” or art or cool stuff should be without them.
