About the Author
Lance M. King has a Master of Business Administration from the Marriott School of Management at Brigham Young University. He spent nearly a decade at FranklinCovey helping to develop and promote principle-centered leadership. Lance enjoys developing simple, sustainable solutions to complex problems, and has spent the last five years applying those skills in the area of complex computer systems and data centers. Lance created a high-density, high-efficiency data center that won a best-practices award at the ComputerWorld SNW Spring 2011 conference. Like so many others, Lance prefers to define success in life not by the amount of money made or the number of things acquired, but rather by the number of people he can help to live better, more fulfilling lives. After waiting many years for politicians, historians, professors, economists and others to create viable solutions to many of the problems that are common to modern societies like healthcare, retirement benefits, balancing budgets, and etcetera, Lance decided to see if he could make a contribution. The result of that effort is Democracy 2.0 and its Principles & Systems approach.

An excellent reminder and call to action

I read many books and, until now, I have not publicly shared a review on any of them. In that respect, "Democracy 2.0" has placed me in unfamiliar territory. It touched a nerve and made me restless; I feel I have to share my thoughts broadly. My hope is that this book will have a similar effect on others -- enough others that we can collectively wake up and become active participants in shaping our government and our nation, so that we and our progeny may enjoy a good quality of life for generations to come.
My high school government class was a long time ago, and many of the facts I once learned about Democracy 1.0 were recalled to my memory by reading the first part of this book. For that, it was an excellent reminder. As good as that was, the real resonance for me was the call to action in the second part of the book. I was reminded that our government is "me" and "we", not merely "them". Especially timely in this election year is the reminder that the strength of our government (our nation) is a clear reflection of the strength and participation of the individuals within our nation. It starts with the individual; we ought to take inventory of our own values and convictions, strengthen ourselves where we are weak, and take an active role shaping our government. Mr. King also shares some intriguing and refreshingly sensible ideas for reforming some of our government processes. These concepts and ideas are at the core of Democracy 2.0. I would love to read more in-depth discussion of these new concepts (perhaps the content of a future book, "Democracy 2.0 HD"?).
Mr. King has used a comfortable and engagingly conversational tone to deliver an important message. It's a quick read, but will spawn profound and long-term thinking.
In the interest of full disclosure, Mr. King is a friend and colleague, and he gave me my first copy of the book. Now that I've read the book, I'm sharing additional copies of this book (this time on my dime) with others whom I perceive as caring deeply about our nation. If you're currently apathetic or cynical about government, this book can make you care and realize that you're part of the solution. If you're already awake to such thinking, this will add fuel to your fire. Read this book and be improved.

Great plan for the future of Democracy in the USA

This is a great read with a great plan to help democracy move forward in the USA. Some of the things I like best are the ISE Accounts this would shift power out of Washington and back to the people. How he points out that Democracies don't go to war with other Democracies. That Democracies create the most innovation then any other civilizations. He also introduces some new thinking that you surely will never here come out of a politicians mouth that can really solve some of our current problems in the USA. And last but not least that democracies need leaders and the people to have principles to succeed long term.

A Quick, Razor-Sharp, Must Read!

I found the text of this book to be almost like a knife cutting through the agenda-based mainstream media. The author puts the cold hard facts of history right up against the current situation of our country in a seemingly effortless collection of short chapters.
How could one not be intrigued by a first paragraph that starts with this warning from the author "First, let me be abundantly clear: this book has nothing to do with any movement, ideology, religious persuasion or political party..."
Not only worth the read, but worth passing along to friends and family alike-
