If it isn't air conditioning or waving palm fronds over a block of ice, I've never heard of it. The previously abstruse concepts of steam heat now make perfect sense. I'm turning pages faster than a John Grisham novel. Thank you for giving the Dead Men such a clear, understandable, and fascinating voice. Essential

This book is an absolute essential for anyone with steam heat. I think that Dan's other book, The Lost Art of Steam Heating, is targeted more to heating contractors and people with seriously "knuckleheaded" systems (messed up systems). This book is not as in-depth, but it does still cover the major fundamentals fairly well.
If you have steam heat, this book can help you get the most out of your system. It will show you how to make it run more quietly, more efficiently, more effectively, and how to make it last much longer. Many of the things in the book are things that an average home-owner can tackle, but it still isn't too basic for a very handy home-owner. Even if you have no interest in doing the work yourself, I think you should still get this book. Steam heat really is a lost art, and there aren't a lot of steamheads our there who know what their doing (though Dan's site heatinghelp.com can help you find the ones that do). This book can help you be sure that the people you hire are doing the right thing and not making your system worse.
Dan writes clearly and humorously. He has a knack for explaining technical topics in a way that is both clear and comprehensive. My wife has no interest in steam heating, but she is tempted to read the book based on me sharing some of the passages. It really is a joy to read.

Very Informative

If you're new to steam heat, this is a great companion book to Dan Holohan's other two books. Beyond that, this book delves into more advanced areas of steam heat that are perfect for a homeowner to know about. Having never worked with a steam heat system before, I comfortably understand how mine works now.
